Notes

Bourke was one of six brothers who served in the war and the occupation of Japan that followed. He served in New Guinea from 21 September 1943 to 5 October 1944 and then on Morotai Island from 13 March 1945 to 25 November 1945. He was graded as a Shipwright in 1943 and used his carpentry skills with the 1st Australian Port Maintenance Company during his time in New Guinea and the south west Pacific, ending the war with its 8th Platoon. He died on 4 May 1992 and is buried in the ex services portion of Gungahlin Cemetery.
