Notes
Boddington went to Canberra Grammar School and completed his leaving certificate in 1960. He entered the Royal Australian Naval College at Jervis Bay in January 1961 and graduated as a midshipman in 1962. Boddington served on two destroyer escorts during the Vietnam War, both of which were destroyers accompanying the troop transport HMAS Sydney. He served on HMAS Derwent from 26 May 1966 to 13 June 1966 and HMAS Parramatta from 5 April 1968 to 17 April 1968.
