Notes

Bartlett arrived in Canberra in the late 1920s and worked for the Department of the Interior before enlisting in June 1940. He sailed for the Middle East at the end of August 1940 and served with a headquarters guard battalion in Libya, Greece and Crete where he became a prisoner of war when the Germans captured the island. He later wrote to friends in Canberra saying he was a POW in Germany. He died on 16 September 1982 and is buried in the ex-services portion of Gungahlin Cemetery.

The AWM collections record is a letter, dated 20 June 1943, from Alex Llewellyn from Stalag VIIIB in Germany in which he refers to Bartlett.
